That would be the reason the fan spins and then stops because it is locked up.

It will not spin continuously. The clutch will come on and off.

In my case when it is coming on it will be a quick, abrupt, jerk, then a full engagement. I have seen some of the other's experience a slow, progressive engagement. This is the reason my "lock up" happened since this is all happening very quickly.

You just might be "locked up" if you are spinning it to fast or if it is not spinning freely. If this is the case then the clutch will have to be cleaned and/or lubricated to make it work better.

Thank you for your concern for my health and well-being.

After all that you may see me agn and see if I'm all better now...

If it's spinning slow it could be because it is spinning too fast, or it has seized.

If you aren't sure, and it sounds like it's stuck when you try to engage it, and there is plenty of oil, take it to a mechanic, and have him evaluate it for you. Sounds like it should be replaced, no matter what.

I had to remove the fan from the top of my motor and lubricate it with 100% new ATF and have the clutch rebuilt before I would trust my motor back on. (in addition to a new fan and new fan belt, etc).

Mine was just "stuck". I don't have the motor on its stands any more but when I checked it the clutch came off in my hands. I was glad because I didn't have anything to put the motor on yet but I didn't get that "stuck" feeling. However, I did put the motor on my stand and it is much much easier now to turn.
